Modern Charm Quilt

Modern Charm 43 x 61 inches. This is a May birthday gift, I took two days off work to get it done as I have an April birthday one to make too! The pattern is from Fabric Cafe 'Quick as a Wink' book, it wasn't quick! I chose this one because it has 9.5 inch blocks for showing a pretty print, and I've always liked the old fashion blocks like this churn dash, I noticed that when you turn the block on the diagonal it has Greek vase look!  The handheld photos are after the quilt has been washed once on 30 degrees to crinkle, the cotton was not prewashed.

Dark green and cream Art Gallery Fabric churn dash. Cream with Ivy lacquer print background, I don't know the brand of this as I tried to order more but it's out of stock! Willow tree ornate print Art Gallery Fabric Backing is 2.5 metres Art Gallery Fabric, I cut this as two lengths, turned the length to the widthways and sewed together at the selvedges, usually I use an upright print so have to add the fabric to the side.

I quilted it both sides of each seam, straight lines. I used Aurfil thread this time, which is as good as Gutermann thread, not a lot of breakage or fluffing.  I used Hobbs poly down 2-3 Oz.

Dash Quilt

King Charles Spaniel quilt for an Australian relative. The pattern is Dash from the Easy Peasy book by Fabric Cafe. It is 44 by 58 inches, for a sofa or end of bed quilt. I will back in Art Gallery fabric and bind it in the orange. Instead of using Fabric 2 for the squares I used an accent colour. Dog fabrics are Timeless Treasures, white on white lacquer print is John Louden and the rust stripe is Camelot.  I quilted it in cream Gutermann thread edge stitched each side of every seam, which sews through the blocks.

I donated or recycled three quilts recently (first baby quilt, Halloween, leaf) and the next two are birthday gifts. After the urgents, I want to make a cute and quick Easter inspired quilt with chickens and chicks, or lambs in peaceful blues and whites, for the dogs to sleep on.

This quilt I pieced on one weekend and really enjoyed it, it was cool finding a fabric with text on it that is made for adults, and the large blocks show off the dogs. I didn't need to fussy cut them at all, the baby quilt took longer to cut because the pieces were smaller and I wanted to select the black poodles mostly, and this quilt is perfect for directional prints.
