The Itch to Stitch Poas Jacket in floral! This is my third Poas jacket, one I donated in Ankara fabric, one in dark 10oz Lady McElroy denim, and this one from 2 metres of canvas supplied by Minerva for review. I chose brass jeans buttons which have a rose on them, to complement the flower print. Prettier than the usual denim button! The floral canvas is also a lovely alternative to plain denim jackets whilst still having a gentle look. You can't see the topstitching as brightly as on a plain background but the topstitching keeps it strong and hardwearing. I sewed it on a sewing machine, so I pressed the panels after sewing them, zigzag stitched the raw edges to stop fraying, and then topstitched. I used beige thread as this fabric has beige and cream threads.
I loved almost every part of sewing it, except for the buttonholes, but adding a layer of interfacing ontop of the textured fabric to sew the buttonholes then tearing it off makes it easier, and you can sew an outline with the buttonhole foot then finish it off with a manual zigzag stitch too. I also add a square of interfacing for the jeans button under the pocket flaps. The buttonholes on mine are functioning but you can put the button through both layers if you wish. I tested the Poas Jacket last Autumn, I donated my first version as the bold neon print didn't feel very me, sometimes - especially for pattern testing, I choose a fabric that best suits the pattern and not necessarily a fabric that suits me. I am glad I have two Poas jackets back in my closet to choose from.
