I felt like crafting this weekend so I made a doll. I really enjoyed sewing this keepsake and it has pretty details which I wouldn't include on my own clothing - the sweet prints and lace on the hem.The lace is from circa 1980s.
I used white super soft polar fleece. Rose print cotton poplin and flower pot print quilting cotton for the gathered skirt. Slipstitching the limbs and ears was very neat as the stray threads disappear with this fabric, very easy for toymaking. The dress is removable so it just as neat inside as out, the bodice is reversible and the skirt hemmed, then the lace attached to the top.
I sewed the skirt less gathered but I think the 50cm width would have been better, omitted buttons and the eye beads in favour of handstitching. I also cut the legs shorter and forgot the 5mm SA so it is slightly smaller. The template is free from Harriet Hare - Sew Mag, their version uses mixed cotton prints. I also like the Tilda Bunny and Ballerina Bear with a similar vintage style. I love toymaking, crafts sewing has a real charm in the autumn season.
